Pahoa Getaway Home Tour

Only two miles from Pahoa, on the windward side of the Big Island of Hawaii. The hub of the area is Hilo, "Hawaii as it used to be", prettier, more temperate, and without the traffic and high prices of the "tourist" areas of Hawaii. The old town of Pahoa is about 18 miles from Hilo, on a good road. The major shopping areas are in Hilo, as is the airport, but the small town of Pahoa has the basic necessities, including quite a few varied and interesting restaurants. It is only minutes from the hot pool at Ahalanui, the black sand beach at Kehenna, and about a forty five minute drive from Kilauea Volcano, the home of Volcano National Park and the current lava flows. The botanical Garden of the Hamakua Coast, Akaka Falls, and the Waiipio Valley are further up the coast past Hilo, and well worth the drive. The Getaway House is a great choice for an Island style vacation in a laidback atmosphere, affordably priced so as to be available to all who are interested in a do-it-yourself stay, away from the beaten path, and oriented to those who want to explore the Hawaiian Aloha of decades past. Please feel free to ask whatever questions you might have concerning the home or the area! Mahalo Nui Loa ( Thanks very much) John Schroeder |

The Pahoa Getaway House is just a short drive from Lava Trees State Park, as well as the local boat launch and surf spot at Pohoiki and the hot pools at Ahalanui, along the "red road", arguably the most scenic drive in all Hawaii. It is in Nanawale,(Hawaiian for Beautiful Place), a local community founded over 100 years ago, sparsely populated over most of the subdivision and offers privacy and unbelievable wildflowers along its red cinder roads. Amenities include: Two bedrooms with queen sized beds. One double "Sealy" Futon in Living room. Full shower and bath. Electric range, Microwave, coffeemaker, full size propane barbecue, dishes, kitchenware, linens, towels, some condiments, cleaning supplies, consumables. Note: We are on the honor system, use what you need and please replace what you use. I furnish a clean well-stocked home to my guests: please leave it clean and as you found it. It helps keep my rates lower than any others I know of in the area. Additionally, there is a surf Kayak available by special arrangement and snorkle gear in adult sizes and two boogie boards for adolescents and young at heart adults. Three pound avocados in season (late summer and fall). RENTAL RATES Weekly rates: $395 with $100 Security/ cleaning deposit. Monthly rates: $1185 with cleaning deposit.* Over four occupants, $6 per day each. *(Plus 11.41 percent tax and refundable security deposit) |
